1. CHIP-LEVEL HARDWARE ARCHITECTURE & SILICON TOPOLOGY (HELIO 12nm FAMILY)
================================================================================
The AMAOE U-MTK4 stencil is the primary hardware repair plate for MediaTek's 12nm FinFET
(TSMC 12FFC) high-volume smartphone generation, spanning low-cost workhorses (Helio A22/P22/P35)
to mainstream gaming chipsets (Helio G80/G85) and performance camera platforms (Helio P60/P70/P90):
A. APPLICATION PROCESSORS (CENTRAL ROW):
- Helio G80 / G85 (MT6768V / MT6769V) & Helio P65:
* CPU: 2x Arm Cortex-A75 @ 2.0 GHz + 6x Arm Cortex-A55 @ 1.8 GHz with Arm Mali-G52 MC2 GPU.
* Thermal cycling stress: These gaming SoCs dissipate high continuous power under 18W charging
and sustained GPU load. Thermal fatigue frequently causes micro-cracks in the center BGA solder
matrix (VDD_CPU and VDD_GPU rails), leading to bootlooping at the vendor logo, spontaneous reboots,
or a completely dead device dropping into MTK USB Port (COM/BROM mode).
- Helio P22 / P35 / G25 / G35 (MT6762V / MT6765V / MT6761V):
* Power-efficient 8x Cortex-A53 architecture paired with PowerVR GE8320 GPU.
* Footprint design: Highly integrated ballout requiring perfectly coplanar pad leveling.
- Helio P60 / P70 / P90 (MT6771V / MT6779V):
* Heavy multi-core configurations paired with dedicated dual-core NeuroPilot APUs.
B. POWER TREE ARCHITECTURES: MT6358VW vs. MT6357CRV:
- MT6358VW / MT6358W (WLCSP-194 Package, 6.4 mm x 6.0 mm):
* Dedicated PMIC for MT6768, MT6769, MT6771, and MT6779.
* Generates VPROC (CPU core), VCORE (system logic), VGPU, VMODEM, VIO18 (1.8V system I/O),
and supplies power to the 26 MHz system crystal and 32.768 kHz RTC clock.
* Failure symptom: A short on VIO18 (Pin F2 equivalent) or VPROC prevents any system power-on reset.
- MT6357CRV (VFBGA-209 Package, 7.0 mm x 6.6 mm):
* Primary PMIC for MT6762, MT6765, and MT6761. Contains 5 buck regulators and 29 low-noise LDOs.
* Diagnostic note: The corner balls carry high-current VPROC and VSYS connections. Physical drops
readily fracture these corner solder joints, producing a phone that draws 35 mA - 60 mA upon
pressing the power button and stays completely frozen.
- Companion Sub-PMIC (MT6360P):
* WLCSP package integrating a 3A switch-mode battery charger, Type-C CC/PD logic, and display bias.
* High failure rate: High-voltage charger spikes short MT6360P, clamping the VSYS rail to ground.
C. STORAGE & MEMORY (BGA254 & BGA221):
- BGA254: Used in higher-tier devices featuring UFS 2.1/2.2 storage and LPDDR4X memory.
- BGA221: Universal eMCP (eMMC 5.1 + LPDDR3/LPDDR4X) used in mainstream models.
- Diagnostic Rule: If the device stays at 80 mA - 140 mA jumping current on a DC power supply
without booting, reballing the BGA221/BGA254 chip resolves missing memory address/data line connections.

2. SOLDER PASTE ALLOY & THERMAL PROFILES
================================================================================
- Stencil Thickness: 0.12 mm precision laser-cut Japanese stainless steel.
- Solder Paste Alloy:
* Sn63/Pb37 (63% Tin / 37% Lead) Eutectic Alloy: Melting Point 183°C.
* Particle Mesh Size: Type 4 (20 - 38 microns) or Type 5 (15 - 25 microns) is strictly required
for the fine 0.40 mm pitch on MT6768V, MT6765V, and MT6358VW.
* Flux Formulation: No-Clean / Rosin Mildly Activated (RMA) high-viscosity paste flux.
- Temperature Guidelines:
* Stencil Ball Reflow: 310°C - 325°C hot air, 25% - 30% airflow.
* Motherboard Desoldering: 345°C - 360°C (with bottom preheater at 140°C - 150°C).
* Motherboard Installation / Reflow: 335°C - 350°C until self-alignment occurs.

3. CHIP-LEVEL REWORK & REBALLING WORKFLOW
================================================================================
STEP 1: IC EXTRACTION
1. Mount the motherboard in a dedicated CNC/magnetic PCB repair fixture. Protect surrounding plastic FPC
connectors, SIM trays, and cameras with aluminum heat-deflector tape.
2. Bottom Pre-Heat: Apply 140°C - 150°C across the board underside.
3. Apply tacky flux around the perimeter of the target SoC (e.g., MT6768V/MT6765V) or PMIC (MT6358/MT6357).
4. Using an 8 mm circular nozzle on the hot-air station, set temperature to 350°C - 360°C (airflow 45%).
5. Heat in smooth, continuous rectangular motions 1.5 cm above the chip for 30-40 seconds.
6. Verify solder liquefaction by nudging an adjacent surface-mount capacitor. Lift the chip straight
up using precision vacuum tweezers or ultra-fine curved tweezers (#5). Avoid any lateral prying.
STEP 2: PAD RESURFACING & EPOXY REMOVAL
1. Lower hot air to 250°C. Apply moderate RMA flux and gently scrape softened black underfill glue
from the PCB pads and IC package margins using a non-scratch copper scraper blade.
2. Add fresh 183°C leaded solder to the footprint using a 330°C micro-soldering iron (C210-K knife tip).
3. Lay high-purity copper desoldering wick across the pads and glide the flat iron face across the
wick without applying downward pressure.
4. Level the IC base pads until smooth and planar. Clean with 99.9% IPA until mirror-clean.
STEP 3: REBALLING WITH THE AMAOE U-MTK4 STENCIL
1. Seat the cleaned IC into a magnetic reballing fixture.
2. Position the corresponding aperture on the U-MTK4 stencil (e.g., MT67/68/69V, MT6762/61/65V,
MT6358VW, or MT6357CRV). Ensure all pad cutouts register cleanly over the chip pads.
3. Apply a small amount of dry-consistency Sn63/Pb37 solder paste to a flat spatula.
4. Spread the paste into the apertures at a 45° angle, packing each via completely. Wipe the stencil
face clean of any excess solder beads.
5. Hold the stencil down firmly with bent titanium tweezers.
6. Direct hot air at 310°C - 325°C (airflow 25% - 30%) 3 cm above the stencil, circling inward.
Observe the paste coalesce into uniform spheres across all rows.
7. Allow 8-10 seconds for cooling, then lift the stencil vertically.
8. Apply a drop of liquid flux and pass hot air for 3 seconds at 300°C to allow all balls to reflow
into perfectly symmetrical, centered BGA spheres.
STEP 4: MOTHERBOARD INSTALLATION
1. Spread a micro-thin layer of tacky flux across the PCB pads (shiny, not flooded).
2. Align the IC with the PCB silkscreen corner brackets (verify Pin 1 dot orientation).
3. Reflow with hot air at 340°C - 350°C (airflow 40%). When the solder melts, surface tension will pull
the IC into exact alignment. Give a gentle 0.1 mm tweezer nudge: the chip must snap back immediately.

4. ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSTICS & FAULT MATRIX
================================================================================
1. Diode-Mode Impedance Verification (Unpowered board, Red probe to GND, Black probe to test point):
- VPROC / VCORE Coils (MT6358 / MT6357) : 0.025 V - 0.080 V (Normal low-impedance buck loop).
- VIO18 (1.8V System I/O Rail) : 0.380 V - 0.490 V (Short indicates PMIC or CPU bridge).
- VCC (3.3V eMCP / UFS Storage Supply) : 0.410 V - 0.520 V.
- VSYS / VBAT (Primary Battery Rail) : 0.420 V - 0.540 V (Short < 0.050 V indicates blown MT6360P).
2. DC Power Supply Boot-Up Current Analysis (4.0V DC Input):
- 0.000 A Standby: Normal prior to pressing Power button.
- 15 mA - 80 mA Leakage (Pre-Power): Blown high-side buck MOSFET inside MT6360P or shorted TVS diode.
- Press Power -> Fixed 30 mA - 50 mA: PMIC has powered on, but 26 MHz system clock is missing,
or RESETB line is held low by the CPU.
- Press Power -> Cycles 80 mA -> 140 mA -> Drops to 0 mA: CPU has initialized; eMCP/uMCP storage
is unseated, unpowered, or missing firmware communication. Reball the BGA221/BGA254 chip.
- Normal Boot Progression: Steps steadily from 90 mA -> 280 mA -> 650 mA -> 1.2 A+ into Android OS.
