- Multi-PMIC Power Topology:     Auxiliary Secondary PMIC (Functions alongside PM7150 Master & PM7150L)

- Functional Classification:      Auxiliary Step-Down Buck Converter & Precision Multi-Channel LDO PMIC

- Package Configuration:          Fine-Pitch Wafer-Level BGA (Ball Grid Array)

- Input Voltage Range:            VPH_PWR (3.4V to 4.35V DC) supplied via primary system switching node

- Regulated Output Stages:

  * Synchronous Step-Down Buck Converters:

    - High-efficiency auxiliary buck regulators providing low-voltage power to application processor

      sub-domains, GPU auxiliary rails, and modem RF baseband processing circuits.

  * Multi-Channel Precision Low-Dropout (LDO) Regulators:

    - Ultra-clean, low-noise supply rails for high-resolution camera image sensors (CSI / AVDD / DVDD),

      motorized camera sliders (e.g., Galaxy A80 rotating mechanism), and RF transceiver PLL rails.

- Thermal & Soldering Guidelines:

  * Reballing Stencil:            Amaoe Qualcomm PM7150 / PM7150A / PM7150L Dedicated Stencil (0.12mm)

  * Recommended Solder Alloy:     183°C Leaded Solder Paste (Sn63/Pb37)

  * Hot Air Rework Settings:      315°C – 325°C (Airflow: 40% – 50%)

2. MOTHERBOARD ARCHITECTURE & MULTI-PMIC FUNCTIONAL SPLIT:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Subsystem Division (PM7150 vs PM7150A vs PM7150L):

  * PM7150 (Master PMIC): Primary power engine managing CPU Kryo Gold/Silver core rails, LPDDR4X memory

    voltages, 38.4MHz base sleep clock (XO), and system power-on state machine sequence.

  * PM7150A (Auxiliary PMIC): Relieves the master PMIC by handling dedicated auxiliary buck supplies,

    discrete peripheral logic, camera image processing rails, and RF transceiver front-end rails.

  * PM7150L (Sub-PMIC): Manages USB Type-C charging, Quick Charge, battery fuel gauge, LCD backlight

    boost converter, and display panel bias (+5V / -5V).

- Communication Bus:

  * Directly coordinated by the Snapdragon application processor over the SPMI bidirectional serial bus.

- Target Compatible Smartphones:

  * Samsung:  Galaxy A71 4G (SM-A715F), Galaxy A80 (SM-A805F), Galaxy M51 (SM-M515F)

  * Xiaomi:   Redmi K20 / Mi 9T, Xiaomi Mi Note 10 / Mi CC9 Pro, Poco X2

  * Motorola: Moto G9 Plus (select board layouts).

3. COMMON MOTHERBOARD FAULT SYMPTOMS:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Completely Dead / Failure to Complete Boot:

  * Handset triggers on power button, draws a small current pulse (20mA–40mA), and drops to zero

    immediately because missing auxiliary voltages cause the CPU SPMI handshake to timeout.

- Fixed Low-Current Draw (0.04A – 0.07A Hang):

  * Motherboard powers up slightly upon pressing the power button, draws ~40mA to 70mA on the DC power

    supply, and locks up permanently without boot progression.

- Camera Malfunction / App Crashing / Rotating Mechanism Failure:

  * Launching the camera app results in a black screen, "Camera Failed" error, or an immediate phone reboot

    due to broken LDO power rails. On Samsung A80, motor rotation fails if PM7150A auxiliary power is missing.

- Baseband / No Network / Radio Transceiver Dropouts:

  * Phone boots into Android OS but network displays "No Service", IMEI status is unavailable, or

    baseband is unknown due to missing power rails to the RF transceiver chip.

- Primary VPH_PWR Short Circuit:

  * Internal breakdown of PM7150A's high-side buck MOSFET pulls the main 4.0V VPH_PWR line to 0V ground,

    causing the bench power supply to trip immediately.

4. STEP-BY-STEP DIAGNOSTIC & TROUBLESHOOTING:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A. Cold Testing (Multimeter Diode Mode Check):

   1. Disconnect battery and Type-C cable completely.

   2. Select Diode Mode on digital multimeter. Connect RED probe to motherboard GND shield:

      - Main VPH_PWR Input Capacitors: Normal reading is 360mV – 480mV.

      - Output Buck Inductors: Normal reading 180mV – 320mV.

      - Camera LDO Filter Capacitors: Normal reading 420mV – 600mV.

      - SPMI Serial Data & Clock Test Points: Normal reading 400mV – 520mV.

   3. Diagnostic Rule: A reading of 0.000V indicates a dead short. If any auxiliary rail is shorted,

      isolate the fault using low-voltage DC injection (1.0V – 1.8V) and thermal imaging or rosin smoke.

B. Hot Testing (Live Operating Voltage Verification):

   1. Connect stabilized bench DC power supply at 4.0V to battery terminals.

   2. Measure VPH_PWR on filter capacitors surrounding PM7150A: Must measure solid 4.0V DC.

   3. Press Power Key and verify voltage rise on surrounding buck inductors:

      - Auxiliary core voltages (~0.8V – 1.1V) must rise cleanly in synchronized boot order.

      - Camera LDO rails must output 2.8V and 1.2V when the camera app is launched.

   4. If input voltage is verified but zero outputs appear, inspect the SPMI communication lines and

      reseat/reball PM7150A.

5. REWORK, REBALLING & INSTALLATION GUIDELINES:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Thermal Shielding & Precautions:

  * Protect the adjacent Snapdragon CPU, UFS storage chip, and sensors with polyimide (Kapton) tape and

    thick aluminum thermal foil to prevent heat damage or solder ball bridging.

- Chip Desoldering (Removal):

  * Apply premium non-corrosive tacky BGA flux around PM7150A.

  * Set hot air station to 320°C with 45% airflow.

  * Move nozzle in smooth concentric circles. As soon as all solder balls liquefy, lift the IC vertically

    with precision micro-tweezers. Never force or pry the chip to avoid lifting delicate PCB pads.

- PCB Pad Dressing & Cleaning:

  * Flatten solder pads using copper desoldering wick and a chisel-tip soldering iron set to 300°C.

  * Clean thoroughly with 99% Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) and verify under microscope for missing or bridged pads.

- Reballing & Installation:

  * Mount PM7150A into a 0.12mm dedicated stencil and apply 183°C leaded solder paste.

  * Heat gently at 290°C – 300°C until perfect, uniform solder spheres form.

  * Apply a microscope-thin film of flux to motherboard pads, align Pin 1 corner indicator dot with the

    silkscreen indicator, and reflow at 310°C until the IC self-aligns. Allow the board to cool naturally.
