3. TYPICAL BOARD-LEVEL FAULT SYMPTOMS:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Completely Dead Handset (0.000A DC Current on Power Trigger):

  * Connecting to DC power supply and triggering the power switch results in 0.000A draw.

  * Cause: Missing internal bias voltages, open 1.8V IO LDO rail, or cracked solder balls under SPU14P.

- Low-Current Boot Freeze (0.040A – 0.090A DC Supply Freeze):

  * Current jumps to 40mA–90mA upon pressing the power button and stays frozen without stepping up.

  * Cause: Missing CPU Core Buck voltages (VDD_CPU) or unfulfilled power-good acknowledgment.

- Baseband / Modem Failure (No Service, Null IMEI, Baseband Unknown):

  * Handset boots normally, but baseband version shows "Unknown" in settings and 5G/4G network fails.

  * Cause: Defective modem buck phase output or cracked RF supply balls under SPU14P.

- Sudden Shutdown Under Load / Camera Launch Crash:

  * Phone operates normally during idle use, but reboots immediately upon launching the camera or running

    a 3D game.

  * Cause: High-side MOSFET degradation inside the buck switching circuits, failing to handle peak current.

- Secondary Power Rail Ground Short:

  * Board draws 1.0A–2.0A or shows severe heating around SPU14P due to an internal buck regulator punch-through.

4. STEP-BY-STEP MULTIMETER TESTING & DIAGNOSTICS:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A. Cold Testing (Diode Mode Check - Motherboard Disconnected from Power):

   1. Set multimeter to Diode Mode. Connect RED probe to PCB Ground shield:

      - CPU Core Buck Inductors (around SPU14P): Normal ~45mV – 95mV (low resistance core, NOT 0.000V).

      - GPU Core Inductor: Normal ~60mV – 120mV.

      - LPDDR4X Memory Inductor: Normal ~280mV – 360mV.

      - 1.8V System IO Line: Normal ~340mV – 460mV.

      - Peripheral LDO Bypass Capacitors (Cameras / Sensors): Normal ~400mV – 580mV.

   2. Short Isolation:

      - If any buck coil or peripheral capacitor reads 0.000V (beeping continuity), apply rosin vapor

or use a thermal camera, then inject 1.0V DC (1.5A limit) onto the shorted line to confirm whether

SPU14P or an external decoupling capacitor is heating up.

B. Live Operating Voltage Check (Hot Testing):

   1. Connect DC power supply (3.85V) or battery to the board:

      - Press and hold the power button; probe the surrounding output coils:

        * CPU Buck Coils must measure steady 0.75V – 1.05V DC.

        * RAM supply coil must measure steady 1.10V / 1.80V DC.

        * Check SPU14P reset & sleep clock signals toward the Exynos 1280 processor.

5. SOLDERING, REBALLING & REWORK SPECIFICATIONS:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- IC Removal:

  * Protect adjacent plastic connectors, cameras, and CPU shielding with Kapton tape / aluminum foil.

  * Apply premium non-corrosive RMA BGA tacky flux along chip edges.

  * Hot air rework station settings: 310°C – 325°C with 35% – 40% airflow.

  * Heat evenly in small circles for 30–40 seconds until solder balls liquefy; gently lift with tweezers.

- Motherboard Pad Cleaning:

  * Apply leaded solder alloy (Sn63/Pb37) to the pads to reduce the melting point.

  * Use copper desoldering braid with a flat bevel iron tip (290°C – 300°C) to make the pads completely flat.

  * Clean residue with 99% Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) and inspect under microscope for torn or bridged pads.

- Reballing Procedure:

  * Use dedicated Amaoe SAM16 (Exynos 1280 / SPU13P / SPU14P) or a matching universal fine-pitch stencil.

  * Apply 183°C leaded solder paste evenly across all apertures; wipe away excess paste cleanly.

  * Heat with hot air set to 280°C – 290°C with low airflow (15%–20%) until shiny, uniform spheres form.

- Alignment & Installation:

  * Apply an ultra-thin layer of tacky BGA flux onto the motherboard footprint.

  * Orient Pin 1 matching the corner silkscreen dot on the PCB.

  * Reflow at 305°C – 315°C with 30% airflow; the IC will self-align onto the footprint pads.

  * Let the board cool down to room temperature for 5 minutes before testing power-on.
