QUALCOMM SDR675 HARDWARE & CHIP-LEVEL REPAIR GUIDE
================================================================================
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SECTION 1: FUNCTIONAL ARCHITECTURE & CIRCUIT ROLE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Architecture: Integrated Direct-Conversion (Zero-IF / Near-Zero-IF) Transceiver.
- Signal Processing:
* Primary Receive (PRX) & Diversity Receive (DRX): Receives multi-band RF
signals, routes them through internal low-noise mixers, and down-converts them
into differential In-Phase (I) and Quadrature (Q) analog baseband channels.
* Transmit (TX): Modulates differential baseband transmit signals into RF carrier
frequencies directed toward external Power Amplifiers (PA / FEM).
- Frequency Generation:
* Built-in low-phase-noise Phase-Locked Loops (PLLs) and Voltage-Controlled
Oscillators (VCOs) disciplined by an external 38.4 MHz / 19.2 MHz reference
crystal clock (XO_CLK).
- Digital Bus Management:
* MIPI RFFE (Radio Frequency Front End) digital control interface managing
external antenna switches, bandpass duplexers, and power amplifier stages.
- Power Supply Rails:
* VREG_SDR_1P8 (1.8V): Digital core, I/O logic, and RFFE communication interface.
* VREG_SDR_1P0 / 1P2 (1.0V - 1.2V): Analog baseband filters and converter stages.
* VREG_SDR_0P85 / 0P9 (0.85V - 0.9V): High-frequency internal PLL synthesizer.

SECTION 2: BOARD-LEVEL FAULT SYMPTOMS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. No Service / Continuous Searching:
- Device displays "No Service", a red circle with a slash, or remains permanently
in "Searching..." without registering to any carrier network.
2. Manual Network Search Failure:
- When initiating a manual network scan in Android Settings, the device
immediately displays "Error while searching for networks".
3. Mobile Radio Power Locked OFF:
- In the engineering testing menu (*#*#4636#*#*), "Mobile Radio Power" is set
to OFF. Toggling it ON automatically reverts it back to OFF.
4. Baseband Version Unknown:
- Missing 1.0V or 1.8V supply or cold solder joint on SDR675 clock/data lines
can stall baseband handshake, causing the software to display "Unknown Baseband".
5. Boot Loop / Low Current Hang (Dead Phone):
- Internal silicon breakdown or a short circuit on the VREG 1.0V / 0.85V rail
clamps the power management IC (PMIC), freezing power supply boot current
between 70mA and 130mA.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SECTION 3: STEP-BY-STEP MULTIMETER TESTING & DIAGNOSTICS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[A] Cold Testing (Diode Mode Readings - Red Probe on GND, Black Probe on Line):
- VREG_1P8 Digital Supply (Decoupling Capacitor near SDR675):
* Normal Value: 0.450V - 0.580V (450mV - 580mV).
* If < 0.050V: Short on the 1.8V power rail.
- VREG_1P0 / 1P2 Analog Core Rail:
* Normal Value: 0.380V - 0.460V.
- VREG_0P85 PLL Rail:
* Normal Value: 0.300V - 0.420V.
- RFFE_CLK & RFFE_DATA Lines:
* Normal Value: 0.420V - 0.520V. Both lines must be balanced within +/-15mV.
- XO_CLK Input Line (Series coupling capacitor):
* Normal Value: 0.520V - 0.640V.
[B] Hot Testing (Live Measurements with Battery, Screen On, SIM Tray Inserted):
- Verify Operating Voltages:
* VREG 1.8V rail: Must read a solid 1.80V DC.
* VREG 1.0V rail: Must read 1.00V to 1.05V DC.
* VREG 0.85V rail: Must read 0.85V to 0.90V DC.
* Note: RF power rails are pulsed during boot and network acquisition; insert
an active SIM card to trigger full radio initialization.
- Clock Signal Verification:
* Using an oscilloscope or frequency counter on the XO_CLK input capacitor,
verify a stable 38.4 MHz or 19.2 MHz sine wave.
[C] Short Isolation:
- If a low-resistance short (<50 ohms) is detected on any supply rail, apply rosin
flux smoke or inspect with a thermal camera.
- Inject 1.0V (current limit 1.5A) into the 1.0V rail or 1.8V into the 1.8V rail.
- Instant heat emission on the SDR675 package confirms internal IC failure.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SECTION 4: SOLDERING, REBALLING & REWORK SPECIFICATIONS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Component Protection:
* Cover nearby processors (CPU/eMMC/UFS) and plastic camera/FPC connectors with
thick polyimide (Kapton) tape and copper heat sinks.
- Chip Removal Parameters:
* Hot Air Station: 345°C - 360°C.
* Airflow: 45% - 55% using a medium (6mm - 7mm) nozzle.
* Evenly preheat the board surrounding the RF shield for 20 seconds. Focus hot
air perpendicularly over the SDR675 and lift straight up with fine curved
tweezers as soon as the solder balls fully melt.
- PCB Pad Dressing:
* Apply high-quality tacky no-clean flux (e.g., Amtech NC-559-V2).
* Use a temperature-controlled flat chisel iron tip (340°C) with leaded solder wire
to absorb factory lead-free solder.
* Level pads using fine copper desoldering wick until the footprint is mirror-flat.
* Degrease thoroughly using 99.9% Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) and examine under microscope.
- Reballing Specifications:
* Stencil: Dedicated Qualcomm SDR675 stencil or universal 0.35mm/0.40mm BGA grid.
* Solder Paste: Sn63/Pb37 alloy (melting point 183°C), blotted dry of excess flux.
* Heating: Hot air at 280°C - 300°C (airflow 25% - 30%) to form uniform solder balls.
- Installation & Final Reflow:
* Align the Pin 1 orientation index dot with the corresponding PCB silk marker.
* Apply a micro-layer of tacky flux.
* Reflow at 345°C (airflow 40%). Once the chip aligns automatically via molten
solder surface tension, deliver a gentle micro-tap to confirm proper pad wetting.
Allow the board to cool naturally before powering on.
