SOUTHCHIP SC8547 / SC8547P CHARGE PUMP FAST CHARGING IC HARDWARE DIAGNOSTIC GUIDE

====================================================================================================

1. FUNCTIONAL ARCHITECTURE & DIRECT CHARGING PRINCIPLE:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- 2:1 Charge Pump Topology:

  * Works with external high-frequency Flying Capacitors (CFLY) to halve incoming adapter voltage

(e.g., 10V down to 5V) while doubling charge current delivered to the battery (from 3A up to 6A).

  * Bypasses the traditional inductive switching buck converter during flash charge mode, avoiding heavy

heat generation across typical charging coils.

  * Internal VOOC / SuperCharge / Flash Charge PHY communicates directly with the original fast charger

over Type-C CC / D+ D- data pins to dynamically adjust adapter voltage.

2. BOARD-LEVEL FAULT SYMPTOMS (HARDWARE DEFECTS):

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Fast / Turbo Charge Not Working (Normal Slow Charging Only):

  * The phone charges normally on a 5V/2A standard charger, but when plugged into the original 33W/65W/67W

fast charger, "Mi Turbo Charge", "Dart", or "SuperVOOC" fails to trigger.

- Phone Reboots Upon Fast Charger Connection:

  * As soon as the fast charger handshake occurs and voltage jumps from 5V to 10V, the phone abruptly

reboots or shuts down due to internal over-current protection tripping in SC8547.

- Complete VBUS Short Circuit / Severe Overheating:

  * Punctured internal power switches (FETs) or shorted flying capacitor lines cause a dead short on the

VBUS input, tripping the charger output or pulling excessive current on a USB ammeter.

- Fake Charging in Fast Mode:

  * The fast charging animation appears on the screen, but battery percentage stays stagnant or drains.

3. MULTIMETER DIAGNOSTICS & TESTING PROCEDURE:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A. Cold Testing (Diode Mode - Battery & Charger Disconnected):

   1. Place RED probe on motherboard Ground (shield frame), probe with BLACK probe:

      - VBUS Input Filter Capacitors: Normal diode reading is ~500mV to 650mV. (0.000V = dead short).

      - Flying Capacitor Terminals (CFLY1/CFLY2): Normal diode reading is ~400mV to 580mV. (Must NOT beep to ground).

      - Battery Output Line (VBAT): Normal reading is ~380mV to 500mV.

      - I2C Control Bus (SCL / SDA): Normal reading is ~450mV to 600mV (both lines must be balanced).

   2. Flying Capacitors Check:

      - Test the two high-capacitance SMD flying capacitors right next to SC8547; verify neither end is

shorted to ground or cracked under physical impact.

B. Hot Testing (Original Fast Charger Connected with Battery):

   1. Connect original 33W/67W charger and monitor voltage:

      - VBUS input should negotiate and jump from +5.0V up to +9.0V–11.0V DC.

      - Output directly feeding the battery must measure +4.0V to +4.45V DC with high amperage.

   2. Diagnostic Evaluation:

      - If input enters at 10V, but SC8547 fails to output stepped-down voltage and gets burning hot,

the charge pump IC is damaged and must be replaced.

4. MICRO-SOLDERING & REWORK SPECIFICATIONS:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Package Architecture:

  * High-density WLCSP / Micro BGA package with bare silicon die top.

- Caution Regarding Flying Capacitors:

  * The flying capacitors undergo high switching stress. When replacing SC8547, always inspect the

adjacent MLCC capacitors for micro-cracks or discoloration.

- Desoldering (Removal):

  * Apply a small drop of premium low-residue tacky flux (NC-559).

  * Hot air rework parameters: Temperature 330°C – 340°C, Airflow 20% – 25%.

  * Heat evenly for 12 to 15 seconds. Lift straight up with fine tweezers as soon as all micro-balls melt.

- PCB Pad Cleanup:

  * Use a micro bevel soldering iron tip with Sn63/Pb37 leaded solder at 280°C to soften factory solder.

  * Clean pads flat and uniform using fine copper desoldering wick and flux. Clean with 99% pure IPA.

- Chip Installation:

  * Apply a microscopic film of transparent flux across the footprint.

  * Align the Pin 1 orientation dot on SC8547/SC8547P precisely with the PCB silkscreen guide.

  * Solder with hot air at 310°C – 320°C with 15%–20% airflow until the chip pulls into place via molten

    solder surface tension.

  * Allow 3 minutes of passive cooling before testing fast charging with the original fast charger and USB meter.
