Product Details

Product Details:

- Part Number: BQ25970 (BQ25970YFFR / BQ25970YFFT)

- Manufacturer: Texas Instruments (TI)

- Function: I2C Controlled Single-Cell 8A High-Efficiency Dual-Phase Switched-Capacitor (Direct Flash Charge) Battery Charger with External OVP Support

- Architecture: 2:1 Switched-Capacitor (Charge Pump) topology running at 50% duty cycle (Input voltage is 2x battery voltage, cutting cable current in half while delivering up to 8A to the battery at 97% peak efficiency)

- Maximum Fast Charge Current: Up to 8.0A high-current direct charging to single-cell Li-ion/Li-polymer batteries

- High Voltage Protection: Supports external Over-Voltage Protection (OVP) FET up to 17V (VAC_OVP)

- Built-in ADC: Integrated 12-bit effective ADC monitoring bus voltage, bus current, output voltage, battery voltage, battery current, and multi-point temperature sensors

- Protection Features: Input overvoltage/overcurrent, output overvoltage/overcurrent, battery overvoltage/overcurrent, die thermal monitoring, and connector temperature sensing

- Package / Pin Count: 56-Ball DSBGA / WCSP (YFF Package, 0.4mm pitch)

- Mounting Type: Surface Mount BGA (Ball Grid Array)

Usage:

- Serves as the primary high-power flash charging controller (Flash Charge / SuperCharge) in smartphones (widely used in Vivo X23, X23A, NEX, X27, Oppo, Tecno, Infinix, and Redmi devices).

- Operates in a dual-charger parallel setup alongside a standard buck charger (such as BQ2589x): the buck IC handles trickle charging, normal 5V charging, and system power-path, while BQ25970 takes over during high-current Flash Charging sessions.

- 2:1 voltage conversion halves the current travelling through the external USB-C cable and connector, preventing overheating during 33W/44W fast charging.

- Replaced during motherboard repair to resolve faults where the phone charges only on normal 5V chargers but fails to trigger fast charging, charging current drops instantly, excessive heating in the charging circuit, or dead charging due to short-circuited switched-cap lines.
