SECTION 1: INTERNAL ARCHITECTURE & CIRCUIT SUBSYSTEMS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Charging & Power Path:
- 4 MHz Synchronous DC-DC Buck Regulator: Provides step-down charging from 5V VBUS (handles up to 25V DC transients via internal OVP) to system voltage (VSYS ~3.8V - 4.35V) and battery (VBAT).
- OTG Reverse Boost Mode: Steps up battery voltage to output +5.0V DC (up to 1.0A) to power external USB OTG flash drives and accessories.
2. MUIC (Micro-USB Interface Controller) & Protocol Detection:
- Senses resistance dividers on USB D+/D- lines to determine charger type (Standard Downstream Port, Dedicated Charging Port, MHL, or OTG cable).
- Low-impedance analog switches route USB signals, UART debug lines, and audio signals through the single micro-USB jack.
3. Flash Driver & Auxiliary Features:
- Dedicated switching boost circuit driving the external camera flash LED up to 1.25A.
- Dual Safeout LDOs delivering clean regulated power (3.3V and 4.85V) for USB peripheral logic.

SECTION 2: STEP-BY-STEP MULTIMETER TESTING & DIAGNOSTICS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Cold Resistance Testing (Diode Mode Readings - RED probe to GND, BLACK probe on test points):
- VBUS Input Filter Capacitor (5V Line from micro-USB port):
* Normal Reading: ~480 mV to 650 mV (Reverse mode must read OL / Infinite).
* Short Circuit Fault: 0.000V indicates punctured OVP protection section.
- VBAT Main Filter Capacitors (Adjacent to MAX77803):
* Normal Reading: ~380 mV to 490 mV.
* Short Circuit Fault: 0.000V proves shorted high-side buck MOSFET.
- VSYS Charging Coil / Inductor (Large square coil beside MAX77803):
* Normal Reading: ~380 mV to 480 mV on both terminals.
- Flash LED Anode Output Line:
* Normal Reading: ~500 mV to 650 mV.
- I2C Bus Lines (SDA / SCL):
* Normal Reading: ~420 mV to 540 mV on both lines.
2. Hot Voltage Testing (Board Connected to 5V Charger via USB Meter):
- Measure VBUS Input Pin: Must read steady +5.0V to +5.2V DC.
- Measure VSYS Inductor: Must read +3.7V to +4.35V DC.
- Diagnostic Rule: If 5V enters the chip on VBUS, but VSYS is 0V or remains at raw battery level without drawing charging current (>450mA), MAX77803 (U601) is dead and must be replaced.

SECTION 3: DESOLDERING, REBALLING & REWORK SPECIFICATIONS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Safe Removal:
- Samsung Galaxy S4 motherboards are sensitive to thermal warping. Protect the neighboring Exynos CPU / Qualcomm AP and eMMC flash with heat-reflective Kapton tape and thick aluminum shield.
- Apply a drop of high-grade tacky flux (Amtech NC-559 or Relife RL-422) around MAX77803.
- Hot Air Settings: Set temperature to 330°C - 340°C with 25% airflow.
- Heat in a smooth, continuous circular motion for 12–15 seconds until all 90 micro BGA balls liquefy; lift vertically with fine tweezers.
2. Pad Dressing & Preparation:
- Apply 183°C leaded solder wire (Sn63/Pb37) to the 90 motherboard pads at 300°C using a micro-soldering tip to soften lead-free factory solder.
- Gently sweep flat with 0.8mm desoldering braid without applying downward pressure to avoid tearing microscopic pads.
- Clean the motherboard footprint thoroughly with 99.9% pure Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) and verify under microscope that all pads are clean, bright, and separated.
3. Reballing & Installation of New MAX77803:
- Use a dedicated Samsung S4 / MAX77803 BGA stencil (0.12mm thickness).
- Apply 183°C solder paste smoothly across all apertures; heat with hot air at 250°C until perfect, uniform spherical balls form.
- Apply a micro-thin film of tacky flux on the motherboard footprint.
- Align Pin 1 corner index dot precisely with the white silkscreen dot on the motherboard.
- Solder with hot air at 310°C - 320°C with low airflow (15% - 20%) until the chip self-aligns via surface tension. Give an extremely light side-tap to confirm molten state.
- Allow natural cooling for 2–3 minutes, clean flux residue, assemble the board, connect the battery, and test USB charging current (should pull ~1.2A to 1.8A smoothly on an authentic fast charger).
