- Sibling Variants: M005X01, M005X03, S2MU004, S2MU005
- Manufacturer: Samsung Semiconductor
- Function: Interface Power Management IC (IF-PMIC) / Sub-PMIC / USB Type-C Charging & CC Logic Controller
- Key Functional Subsystems:
* USB Type-C Cable Orientation & Configuration Channel (CC1 / CC2) Detection
* Fast Charging Protocol Negotiation (Samsung AFC & Qualcomm Quick Charge Handshake)
* Power Path Switching between USB VBUS and Internal Main System Rails
* USB OTG Reverse Power Delivery (5V Boost Output)
* Integrated Temperature Sensing and Over-Voltage Protection (OVP)
- Package Type: Fine-Pitch BGA / WLCSP
- Mounting Type: Surface Mount Technology (SMD BGA Soldering / Reballing)
Usage:
- Input Charging & Power Path Management: Serves as the gatekeeper between the USB Type-C dock connector and the battery/main power system, managing charge currents and protecting the motherboard from input voltage spikes.
- Target Devices & Compatible Models:
* Samsung Galaxy S8 (SM-G950F, SM-G950U, SM-G950W, SM-G950N)
* Samsung Galaxy S8+ / S8 Plus (SM-G955F, SM-G955U, SM-G955W)
* Samsung Galaxy C9 / C9 Pro (SM-C9000, SM-C900F)
* Select regional variants of Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy A-series architectures.
- Common Fault Symptoms & Motherboard Diagnostics:
* Dead Phone (No Power / S8 Will Not Start): Phone shows no signs of life; on DC bench power supply, it draws 0.00A or a static low current hang (0.01A–0.03A) because the internal power path to the main PMIC is open or shorted.
* No Charging / 0.00A Current Draw: USB ammeter stays at 5V 0.00A when the cable is plugged in, indicating failed Type-C CC line detection.
* Fake Charging / Slow Charging: Lightning bolt appears on the screen, but battery percentage does not climb or decreases under use.
* False "Moisture Detected" Alert: Device continuously displays a "Moisture detected in charging port" popup error even when the port is completely dry, caused by damaged CC detection pins inside M005X02.
* Drop Damage Failure: Extremely prevalent on drop-damaged Galaxy S8 / S8+ units where mechanical impact fractures solder joints under the BGA package, requiring chip reballing or replacement.
* Standby Overheating: Phone becomes unusually hot near the charging section shield, accompanied by rapid battery drain in sleep mode.
